Tell us more about yourself
I’m Natasha Proctor, am 22 years old. I grew up in Francistown and was raised by my beautiful mom. I have a special bond with my grandmother and I just love being surrounded by loving people. I’m currently studying International Business at Limkokwing University, waiting to get an attachment and to graduate soon.
How did you come to be where you are, having a makeup business?
I just practiced my skills on my family and friends, and whenever they posted pictures I would get requests from several people. When this happened often I realized that I had to take my skill seriously and venture into the makeup world.
Who or what inspired you to venture into the makeup business?
I inspired myself, I kept practicing until I got it right, even in challenging situations I kept trying because I didn’t believe in giving up. I love playing with makeup. Since high school, I’d get in trouble for applying basic makeup. I am a person that always work hard to get what they want, no matter how much people try to discourage me and make it seem impossible, I always fight for what I want and I prefer learning from my own mistakes than from other people’s mistakes. I’m very stubborn when it comes to convincing me otherwise, I will always go for what I want! So since day one, I never gave up on my passion for makeup, because I believed in myself and I knew it deep down, God blessed me with this talent.
Does the business do quite well or not?
Yes it does, but because of Covid-19 some clients don’t call as much because it has affected our finances. But otherwise everything is going great especially because I have my products.
Apart from having a makeup business what else do you do?
I sell products online, I’m a social media influencer, I’m a plus size model and I’m a student at Limkokwing, I try to juggle a lot of things.
What are the things that you are passionate about?
I’m passionate about beauty and cosmetology. I just love how we can work with the skin and makeup to create a beautiful masterpiece. It’s therapeutic for me to enhance women’s beauty and to make them feel more confident.
So what does your business aim to archive as time goes?
I’d like to have my own makeup school in future and makeup line like MAC, URBAN DECAY or FENTY BEAUTY.
What are the challenges you encounter in your line of work?
When my makeup products run out then I have to order online, meaning they can take weeks or months to get here. Covid-19 laws have also slowed down the shipping process for me so that’s my one major problem in the makeup industry.
How do you usually resolve those challenges?
Praying and reading my Bible. My anxiety definitely goes down after doing this. You know how school gets students stressed. Well, prayer helps a lot and also applying makeup or watching Tiktok videos.
Who is the most prominent person whom you did their make up?
All the people I’ve applied makeup on were all prominent to me honestly but in terms of Instagram followers then Kagiso Sento. She’s such a wonderful person to work with.
Who else do you desire to be your client?
Khanyi Mbau, I’d love to do her makeup EVERYDAY for the rest of my life. I love her so much.
How is the competition in your sector?
It is quite competitive but I have built my own clientele, so it doesn’t really affect me that much because I haven’t lost any clients, so far…
What makes you unique from the rest of the artists?
I use high profile quality products. I want to make sure that my clients experience the best makeup products that match their skin tones perfectly without affecting or causing skin problems or allergic reactions and I don’t change how a person looks, I just enhance their beauty.
Do you consider your work quite creative in the artistic sense?
Yes, I do because I just don’t do glam makeup, I also like playing around with makeup and being creative. I also do creative themed face painting at times and try by all means to be unique, e.g Halloween and independence.
What inspiration do you have for fellow upcoming and aspiring artists?
Put God First and don’t give up on your dream. You are YOU and that’s your superpower, don’t ever doubt your skills and be passionate in everything you do.
