HEATLESS WAYS OF STRETCHING NATURAL HAIR
By Fro’Niques
Heat damage is a condition that results when strands of hair are exposed to instant extreme heat leading to moisture content loss and this may lead to permanent change in structure. Heat damage results from various sources such as heat styling appliances (blow driers, curling irons etc). This is why it is a must to introduce heatless methods of stretching your hair on your routine
Natural hair tangles easily and is more prone to breakage than any other hair type. That is why one of the best ways to preserve it from breakage is to keep it stretched.
Stretching natural hair helps reduce the risk of it tangling up and also makes it easier to manage.
Here are four heatless ways of stretching natural hair
- African Threading– this method requires the use of smooth thread to wrap around sections of hair from the roots to the tip. The more sections you wrap, the more your hair will stretch.
- Braiding– putting your hair in braids to stretch out the strands while air drying. You can braid your hair while damp for faster drying time.
- Banding– This method is similar to African threading. Banding utilizes elastic bands (seamless) to stretch the hair. Like African threading, you wrap bands around sections of hair from roots to tip.
- Rollers/Rod setting– Using rollers and flexi rods or any other type of hair rollers to stretch the hair out, while simultaneously creating elongated curls. Hair must be rolled around and pinned to remove the roller set curl for a more stretched look.
Note: work on freshly shampooed (using Fro’Niques nourishing shampoo bar) and conditioner hair that is damp (not wet)
