An Aspiring MakeUp Queen

My name is Katlo, an aspiring make-up artist from Mmadinare but based in Tlokweng. I’m a student at Botho University and I do makeup as a part-time. My love for makeup started from a very young age. Little did I know that this is my talent. In 2020 I took a leap of faith believing that I will build my makeup kit from the little that I get from those I apply makeup on. My inspiration has always been Jessica Molefe, the founder of Jessie’s Makeup hence my Facebook page is Katlo’s Makeup. I believe that one day I will be as far as Jessie’s position.

Attached here is a picture of before and after Makeup that I have done. It takes 45 minutes to an hour to get the whole look done. I have used different kinds of products to get this look which include; foundation, concealer, eyebrow pencil, makeup brushes, eye shadows, just to mention a few. One important factor when applying makeup is to know the colour of your skin to help choose the correct foundation colour that matches well with your skin. Foundation colour as the makeup completer is very important. For one to say you have a nice make-up on, they are normally looking at the foundation colour applied.

Another thing that one needs to know is why do you apply makeup? You apply make-up for different reasons like to enhance one’s appearance, which can be used to conceal blemishes, enhance one’s natural features such as the eyebrows and eyelashes, add colour to a person’s face and can be used to change the appearance of the face entirely to resemble a different person, creature or object, by so doing, one may gain the confidence to interact with other people and regain their self-esteem if it was somehow destroyed. Just to brush on the steps to apply makeup, you need primer and moisturizer before applying foundation. After applying foundation of your skin colour, brighten the skin with concealer, use bronzer, add the make-up powder then set with setting spray then add highlighter. For the eyebrows, you need eyebrow pencil and concealer, then the eyeshadows to add colour to your makeup. I added lashes to the face beat to make it complete. For the lips, one needs a liner and a lipstick or lip gloss.

Makeup is Art, you can draw certain creatures or objects on your face to communicate. It’s not all about drawing the eyebrows but being creative.
