A Minute With Trey
Tsotlhe Mabei aka Icon Trey from Kanye joined the music industry in 2019 because he believed that his talent will pay off one day. Asked in an interview with this publication, if music is something he had always wanted to do, Icon Trey said that it has always been his dream to see himself in the music industry.
He started off by writing songs in 2015 and was inspired by an American singer – Neyo, in Botswana he looks up to the local artist, A.T.I and he works hard to see himself popular one day. Trey, who does music with passion and for a living has so far worked with A’ron Psalm aka Aron Pholo whom he featured in his single album called No Doubts. This single was released on May 28, 2021 it is an inspiration to everyone who struggles with the hardships of life.
Trey said that his single already plays on Gabz FM and it’s his first play on radio adding that before its release, while he was still sharpening his talent he kept on just writing songs. He wrote about fifteen of them although they didn’t make it to the radio stations.
Talking about his achievements, Trey said that in 2019 he was nominated for BOGMA (Botswana Gospel Music Awards) where he wrote rap verses and submitted them for the nominations. Besides music, he does furniture design (house fittings) and plays basketball. “Am still a student, I study Certificate in Furniture Design and Manufacturing,” he said.
In the near future I want to see myself performing in a foreign country and featuring international artists but locally, I want to feature Spiza and Dada Kavino. I have a link on sound cloud, audio mac, facebook, Mp3 music juices, this is where I reach my followers.
His motto: “Sweat at a pace so that at war you sweat less” simply means work hard right now so that in the final points you work a little as everything flows”
