Her love for music blossomed early in life, nurtured by her involvement in church activities. “I grew up in church, and that’s how I learned to sing,” she shares. From the church choir to her school choir, music became a constant presence in her life, a companion that would guide her on a remarkable journey of self-discovery and expression.

Lioness Ratang’s genre of choice is Soulful Amapiano—a perfect reflection of her emotional and introspective character. “I’m someone who’s very emotional, so this genre allows me to always reflect my feelings in song,” she explains. This authenticity and vulnerability have become her signature, enabling her to connect deeply with her audience. For Lioness Ratang, inspiration comes from her own life experiences. “Honestly, any song I’ve written is because I’ve been through that feeling,” she says. It’s a genre that’s always been close to my heart and has shaped my approach to melodies.”

She begins by listening to a beat once before taking a break. “I try to recall the melody of the beat or look for the soul in it,” she shares. This reflective approach allows her to connect with the essence of the music. “Music is a gift from God, honestly,” she adds, a sentiment that underscores her deep gratitude for her talent.

One of her most beloved creations, “Nakotsele,” is a testament to her gift. The song was born during a challenging time in her life, serving as both an outlet and a beacon of hope. “Nakotsele was truly a gift from God. It’s a true story that resonates with everyone. How many people are traveling for love?” she asks. The song’s universal theme struck a chord with listeners, earning her national acclaim. “My proudest moment was hearing a crowd singing it word for word. I had never thought I’d write a song that would be sung by the whole country.”

Like any artist, Lioness Ratang has faced her share of challenges. “There was a point in time when I was getting no bookings, literally,” she recalls. “But by God’s grace, I started getting bookings after trending.” This period of struggle taught her resilience and the importance of faith. Today, she’s a sought-after performer, celebrated for her soulful voice and authentic storytelling.

One of the highlights of her career has been collaborating with Casswell, a producer she deeply admires. “Casswell is honestly one person who, when you work with him, you are sure to make a hit. You could never miss with Casswell,” she says with gratitude.

Looking ahead, Lioness Ratang dreams of collaborating with Kabza De Small, her favorite producer. “I want to collaborate with Kabza so bad,” she confesses.
