The Aspiring Star Lady Mackay
With all the challenges she came across while pursuing her music career, she never gave up instead she stood firm and focused on building her legacy. Meet the fascinating twenty three year old promising artist – Wame Jullien Makhandlela with stage name “Star Lady Mackay”.
She believes that her music plays an important role in the lives of people as it does not only entertain the audience but also heals and educates them at the same time. Star Lady Mackay specializes in different genres. She said “My voice fits in every genre that’s why I do all genres”. She also said this is a dynamic way to cater for different audience. Her first single “Ke nyorilwe” is a House Gospel song which was released in 2018. In 2019 she switched from house gospel to Mpaxanga through an album titled “Kgomo ya lefisa” in which she collaborated with Macloud in some of the songs. Wame released another album this year which is an Afro-pop titled “Ntwa ya gae”. She said “Kgomo ya lefisa” album made her presence to be felt country-wide as it reached radio stations.
The Bobonong native is currently writing her own music and manages herself. She has performed at different clubs, weddings and parties around the country. She is inspired by Charma Gal. “I am looking up for Charma Gal, she motivates me and her music journey is a living testimony because it gives me hope that one day I will reach that level,” she said. Star Lady Mackay is also willing to collaborate with the likes of Rocking Stars, Motha and Charma Gal just to mention the few. Her vision is to establish a record studio which will help other upcoming artists.
She expressed gratitude to her fans for playing a role in grooming her, adding that their support and guidance built her into a strong woman she is today. She applauds local musicians who are already doing well to help the upcoming artists. “Groom us, mentor and guide us to help grow the music industry in Botswana.
